A leading space technology company is seeking a Technical Writer to support the development, manufacturing, and production of spacecraft and satellite hardware. This role will work closely with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and operations teams to create and maintain critical documentation supporting advanced aerospace systems.

Location: San Jose, CA (Onsite)

Pay: $50-60/hr

Duration: 9-Month Contract-to-Hire

Responsibilities:

• Create and maintain user manuals, build guides, work instructions, assembly procedures, SOPs, FAQs, and system process documents

• Translate complex engineering and manufacturing concepts into clear, concise documentation for technical and non-technical audiences

• Develop documentation supporting spacecraft, satellite, and advanced hardware production programs

• Review and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, specifications, and manufacturing requirements

• Partner with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and operations teams to ensure documentation accuracy and completeness

• Incorporate diagrams, charts, screenshots, and visual aids to improve document usability and reduce reader effort

• Organize and maintain documentation libraries and information architecture to ensure teams can quickly locate critical information

• Support configuration-controlled documentation environments and continuous process improvement initiatives

Required Qualifications:

• 5+ years of technical writing experience within aerospace, space, satellite, defense, electronics, hardware, manufacturing, or engineering environments

• Experience creating work instructions, build guides, process documentation, manufacturing procedures, technical manuals, or SOPs

• Exceptional writing, editing, grammar, and document organization skills

• Ability to read and interpret engineering documentation, schematics, drawings, and technical specifications

• Experience working directly with engineers and technical subject matter experts

• Familiarity with MS Office, Confluence, MES, or similar documentation platforms

Preferred Qualifications:

• Aerospace, spacecraft, satellite, or defense industry experience

• Familiarity with AS9100 and/or ISO 9001 quality management systems

• Experience supporting hardware manufacturing or production environments

• Knowledge of wire harness and cable assembly documentation (IPC-A-620)

• Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma experience

Ideal Background:

This role is best suited for Technical Writers who have supported aerospace, spacecraft, satellite, aviation, defense, electronics, or advanced manufacturing programs and are comfortable working directly with engineers to develop documentation used throughout hardware design, production, assembly, integration, and testing efforts.

$50- $60 an hour

Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education.
