Staff Writer / Editorial Writer
AdMax Displays is looking for a talented, curious, and community-minded writer to join our growing publishing team.
This position will help tell the stories of businesses, organizations, people, and communities across Duluth, Superior, and the greater region. You’ll write for several AdMax publications, including Duluthian Magazine, Positively Superior, Business North, destination guides, special publications, and other print and digital projects produced throughout the year.
We’re looking for someone who enjoys talking with people, asking good questions, finding the story behind the story, and turning interviews and research into articles people actually want to read.
What You'll Do
Write feature stories, business profiles, community stories, news pieces, and other editorial content
Contribute regularly to Duluthian Magazine, Positively Superior, and Business North
Interview business owners, community leaders, entrepreneurs, nonprofit organizations, and other local voices
Research story topics and develop article ideas
Work with our editorial and design teams to plan upcoming publications
Write content for special publications, visitor guides, directories, and other AdMax projects
Edit and proofread articles before publication
Help maintain editorial calendars and meet publication deadlines
Develop relationships with businesses and organizations throughout the region
Occasionally assist with website, email, social, and other written content related to our publications
Help us identify interesting stories happening throughout Duluth, Superior, and Northern Minnesota
Who We're Looking For
You don't need to have spent 20 years in a newsroom. We're looking for someone who can write well, communicate confidently, stay organized, and genuinely enjoys learning about people and businesses.
A great candidate will have:
Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills
The ability to conduct engaging interviews
A natural curiosity and willingness to dig deeper into a story
Strong attention to detail
The ability to manage multiple stories and deadlines at once
Comfort reaching out to and interviewing people they haven't met before
An understanding of what makes a story interesting to a local audience
The ability to adapt their writing style for different publications and audiences
A collaborative attitude and willingness to work closely with editors, designers, photographers, and the broader AdMax team
Experience in journalism, communications, marketing, publishing, or professional writing is preferred, but a strong writing portfolio and the right personality matter more to us than a specific degree or career path.
What You'll Write About
One week you might be interviewing the owner of a new restaurant in Superior. The next, you could be profiling one of Duluth's largest employers, covering a major development project, highlighting a local nonprofit, or helping put together a guide showcasing everything there is to do around Lake Superior.
The variety is a big part of the job.
Our publications reach thousands of readers throughout the region, giving you the opportunity to tell stories about the businesses, people, projects, and ideas shaping our communities.
